- Mounted Photograph. Black and white photograph, hand-coloured. Stone building with bell tower. Evergreen trees in front to right of picture. Crowd of people in front of building at centre. Building surrounded by lawn. Underneath the picture is printed "Public and Model School, Milton, Ont. This photograph together with three others, form a calendar for the year 1908 with the photographs suspended one above the other by dark red ribbon. The ribbon is in poor condition.

- Milton Public School, later known as Bruce St. School, was built in 1857 at a cost of 800 pounds (about $2,000). Its two foot thick walls were of local limestone. It served Milton until 1972. Bruce Street school was demolished in 1973 and the Milton Public Library erected on that space. 13 copies of this photograph. For further information see "An Indelible Imprint" by Jim Dills.

- Brick building with three large windows at the front and large doors down the side. Tall chimney at the back. In front is a tree bare of leaves and snow is on the ground. Top of what appears to be a wagon wheel at front right of picture. In the rear left of the picture is Martin's grist mill.

- Description:
- Large red brick Victorian house, two storey with three storey tower.

- Built by lawyer Duncan McGibbon in 1888. Purchased by the Children's Aid Society in 1918 and in 1919 a legacy allowed a new wing addition. In 1936 the Gordon Home was closed and later used as apartments and the public schools inspector's office. The house, which was at 10 Court St. N. (north-east corner of Main and Court), was demolished c.1970s. The space is now occupied by modern stores with apartments over them.

- Notes from Jack Charlton - 425 Main Street plus Milton Greenhouse. During Bob Brown's ownership he sold off the corner for a gas station. At the front of the property he built a showroom for his flowers. Immediately at the rear of the showroom was his old style brick cottage formerly the first brick school house, No. 5 Trafalgar. The greenhouses are quite noticeable. All were demolished in early 1971. Now occupied by strip stores. Cataloguer's note - Gold City Restaurant is now at 425 Main Street, and Gino's Pizza at 431 Main. Blue car is going north on Ontario Street.

- Notes accompanying the photograph written by Jack Charlton as follows: This is the site of the Blind and Sash Factory operated by John Hunter and John Ezard (see County Atlas). The original building was demolished by fire and this followed. It apparently was rebuilt several times. The last operation as a mill was by John F. Noble who sold to developers who demolished the buildings about 1970.

- This is the original Mill site. The stone mill was demolished in 1963 after a disastrous fire. It was then owned by Robinhood Co. All of the structures here were built for Dr. C. Martin during his years of tenure 1930-1963. 39 Martin Street. The old stone mill was behind these structures.

- Long low brick factory building by railway tracks. Sign saying 'Office Carpenter Bus' over the left hand side of the building but the building is obviously derelict.

- Notes provided by Jack Charlton. 'Built in 1908 by C. R. Willmott & Co. to manufacture agriculture implements - however, it soon failed. Different companies then used it for only short periods such as Edward Electrical Co. Ltd. In 1917 P. L. Robertson Co. Ltd. purchased the property to use to manufacture a new modern screw cutting machine. In 1926 it was purchased by Milton Spinning Mills. Closed in 1930 and sold to Sam Smith. Re-opened as a woollen mill in 1935. Later purchased by John P. Pascal(?) and sold in parts. It was used by the Carpenter Bros. Co. who closed doors in the late 1960s and then purchased by John P. Pascal(?) (the land developer who created Milton Mall 1961 to present). Buildings demolished.' The building was situated on the north side of the railway tracks between Court Street North and Martin Street.

- The westerly section of St. Paul's United Church was built in the 1850s. The Wesleyan Methodist Church demolished in 1961 to make room for the Christian Education Centre, 1962. The lot under the two storey brick house on the west side of the Church was purchased from John Martin April 16, 1845 and subsequently James Laidlaw, early pioneer from Esquesing, built this house. It was moved in 1961 to 80 Robert Street.

- This building was originally known as R. & C. H. Burling' Block. It was built in 1858 by Alexander Murray and demolished by the town in 1970. The lot is now occupied by a parkette and the Spice of Life gift store, 254 Main St. E. An older picture of this building can be seen in image #1763

- Description:
- On the left at the corner is the post office, facing the camera is Ledwith's grocery store, in the distance is a two-storey semi-detached house on the south side of Mary Street, on the right hand corner is the Dewar Block. A two-storey brick house is on the right hand side on the corner of Mill and Martin St. On the left of the picture behind the Supersweet Feeds sign and just in front of the post office building an ivy-covered chimney can be seen and the roof-line of an older house - this was Dr. Stevenson's house which was also used as Milton's first hospital.

- The Supersweet Feeds sign has gone and also the feed mill - it has been replaced with apartment blocks. The post office is now a restaurant; a new post office was built on Brown Street. Ledwith's grocery store became Quality Greens grocery store. The grocery store closed and the property divided into a fast-food restaurant and a furnishing/decorating store. The semi-detached house was demolished c.1970s and is now a parking lot. The Dewar Block remains stores and offices. The brick house on the right-hand side is a lawyer's office. The one-storey Ledwith store is now a two-storey building with apartments on the second floor - this floor was added c.1960s by Mike Ledwith.

- Built by Dr. Peter Stuart in 1885. Sold to Dr. M. E. Gowland about 1907. Retained as a home by the Gowlands until sold in 1965 to developer Wm. Ollen. The house was demolished and replaced with four strip stores.

- Description:
- In the centre of the building is the old Burling building which has now been demolished. The top of the old town hall can be seen towards the left of the picture. The white extension with windows near the centre of the picture is the back of the old Gowland house, now demolished and replaced with the TD Canada Trust Building. At the extreme left of the picture is the entrance of what was Quality Greens but is now the Rustic Pear furniture store. At the right is the building which was originally used by Dr. Peter Stuart and Dr. Gowland for horses and cars. It was demolished.

- Notes by Jack Charlton. 'Background - Gordon MacNab and Son - furniture store and funeral parlour at rear. Corner of Main and Charles St. Removed in the late 1960's by the town. The main store wall was bulging severely and the cost to repair it in excess of worth. At the right - A horse barn, later garage used by Dr. M. E. Gowland and earlier by Dr. Peter Stuart, also it may have been built by Henry Huffman, Milton's first land developer. Foreground - The original brick store built by George Smith and then leased to John M. Bastedo 1887. On the top of that section is the tower of the old town hall repaced in 1953 as the belfry was too costly to repair. The brick store was later purchased by the Metropolitan Bank, later the Bank of Nova Scotia. The frame two storey store next west was purchased by the bank from the Middleton family then demolished and the present bank reconstructed in 1964. The most westerly part of the property was purchased by Michael Ledwith who extended his store about 1960.'

- Possibly built in 1861 as a rental property by Henry McCartney, brother-in-law of Dr. Charles Gardner who purchased balance of land from Henry Huffman and produced the Gardner plan of subdivision on the south side of Mary Street, thus Charles Street. Re-modelled in stucco in 1927 by contractor Samuel Henson. Demolished c.1970s. After that it was the parking lot for the grocery store Quality Greens.

- The land abstract indicates this frame two storey tenement house was built by John Trotter in 1855 and contained four family units. It was removed when purchased by the Town of Milton in 1970. Many families were raised here. It is now a municipal parking lot.

- Notes by Jack Charlton. 'Both of these buildings were of brick. The smaller building was owned and for many years used as a stable by the butcher shop on Main street by W. B. Dickin 1889. The larger building became a Blacksmith's shop and was removed in the 1960s to re-align Mary Street. It may have been built as a carriage house for W. L. P. Eager who built Roselawn now owned by the Oddfellows.'
